#9- The EA Graveyard: 10 Robots That Died So Yours Could Live

Welcome to the cemetery, darling. Bring flowers, tissues, and a strong stomach.

These are the ten most famous (or infamous) Expert Advisors that once made traders rich, horny, and delusional… until they all died screaming between 2015 and 2026. I either ran them personally, watched friends run them, or autopsied the corpses on Myfxbook.

Their tombstones teach more than any guru ever will.

Light a candle. Pour one out. And learn why they’re dead.

1. Ilan 1.6 / 2.0 (2008–2017)

Cause of death: Pure martingale disguised as “dynamic hedging” Peak fame: 2012–2014, every Russian forum flexing +2000% Killed by: Swiss National Bank flash crash 2015 – wiped entire forums in 11 minutes Lesson: If the word “Ilan” is in the filename, delete it and go confess your sins.

2. GPS Forex Robot (Mark Larsen special) (2012–2019)

Cause of death: Reverse-engineered and sold as “new versions” until the edge vanished Peak fame: Promised “one trade per month, guaranteed profit” Killed by: Everyone and their dog running the exact same logic → brokers front-ran it to death Lesson: When something is sold to 50,000 retail traders, the edge dies faster than your dignity.

3. Forex Fury (2015–2022)

Cause of death: Over-optimization on ranging EUR/USD 2015–2019 Peak fame: Verified Myfxbook +3800% with 9% drawdown (yes, really) Killed by: 2020–2022 volatility explosion – turned into a drawdown machine Lesson: A gorgeous backtest on 2015–2018 data means jack shit in a new regime.

4. WallStreet Robot (all versions) (2010–2020)

Cause of death: Scalping with fixed 10-pip targets during Asian session Killed by: Brokers widening spreads from 0.3 to 3.0 pips overnight in 2019–2020 Lesson: If your EA makes money purely from spread, pray your broker stays honest (they won’t).

5. Blessing 3 (the martingale-grid hybrid monster) (2011–2018)

Cause of death: Required perfect ranging market + unlimited margin Killed by: 2018 USD/TRY flash crash – one pair took 15 levels deep, accounts gone in hours Lesson: “Unlimited grid” and “real trading” cannot coexist in the same universe.

6. Forex Diamond (2014–2021)

Cause of death: Trend + counter-trend mix that worked perfectly… until it didn’t Killed by: 2020 COVID crash – got long and strong right before everything fell off a cliff Lesson: Combining two opposite strategies doesn’t make you diversified; it makes you wrong twice as often.

7. Forex Flex Robot (2016–2023)

Cause of death: Had 27 different “virtual strategies” that could be turned on/off Killed by: Users turned on ALL strategies at once like it was Pokémon Lesson: More settings ≠ better. It equals chaos and curve-fitting orgy.

8. Any “News Trader” EA that spikes on NFP (2009–2025)

Cause of death: Broker latency games + slippage + requotes Killed by: Every single broker on earth learning to pause execution for 3–15 seconds during news Lesson: Trying to scalp news with a retail broker is like bringing a spoon to a gunfight.

9. The “Free Hedge Master” from MQL5 market (2021–2024)

Cause of death: Exploited US brokers that still allowed hedging Killed by: Every US regulator finally closing the loophole + brokers banning accounts Lesson: If your entire edge depends on a regulatory loophole, start writing your obituary the day you launch.

10. My Personal Frankenstein: “RageGrid 2022” (self-coded, RIP March 2023)

Cause of death: 50-pip grid on GBP/JPY with 1.4× multiplier and “only 12 levels, bro” Killed by: March 2023 banking crisis – GBP/JPY trended 2400 pips in one direction without breathing Final equity: -$18,400 in 72 hours Lesson: Even when you think you’re the smart one, the market is smarter.

The Common Thread in Every Corpse

  • Over-optimization
  • No regime filter (ranging vs trending)
  • Dependency on low spreads or regulatory loopholes
  • Greed settings sold as “aggressive mode”
  • Vendors disappearing the moment the first big drawdown hits

How to Keep Your Current EA Out of This Graveyard

  1. It must have survived at least one black swan live (COVID, SNB, 2022 inflation, etc.)
  2. Max drawdown in live trading >25% (if it never drew down hard, it never traded real markets)
  3. You can explain the edge in one drunk sentence
  4. Vendor still answers emails in 2026 (most corpses above – radio silence after death)
  5. It still makes money when spreads double and volatility triples

If your EA fails even one of these, start digging its grave now and save time.

Final Prayer at the Cemetery Gates

Rest in peace, sweet fallen robots. You gave us hope, dopamine, and eventually brutal lessons. We’ll try to do better.

Now go check your current bots. If any of them look like the ghosts above… you know what to do.

Financial Disclaimer (The Funeral Edition)

This is not financial advice; it’s an autopsy report from the Forex morgue. Past performance of dead EAs is the best predictor of future tears. Most robots die young and broke – just like most traders. Don’t marry your EA; date it, test it, and be ready to ghost it the moment it starts bleeding.
